BENEFITS
Camp Carl Benefits
Compensation
At Camp Carl, we like to reward experience and returning staff so our pay rate is based on how many years you’ve worked at Camp Carl. Because of the nature of the work at Camp, we pay on a daily rate. Your supervisor will keep track of your attendance and your paycheck will be based on how many days you worked. Because of this, it is hard for us to give you an exact amount you’ll make for the summer. Also our training dates tend to fluctuate so the amount of days changes each year. However, if you are present for every day of the summer, compensations tends to follow this approximate structure:
- High School Staff: $2015
- 1st Summer: $2,200
- 2nd Summer: $2,400
- 3rd Summer: $2,600
- 4th Summer & beyond: $2,800
- Unit Leaders: $3,500
Before the summer begins, you are allowed to schedule one week of unpaid vacation during the summer. Any time-off requests put in after the start of the summer are not guaranteed to be granted, however we are happy to work with doctor’s appointments, family emergencies, and school related responsibilities.
Meals
Meals are provided during the work week. Your last full meal provided is lunch on Friday. You are on your own for your meals on the weekend, then the first meal provided of the work week is Sunday dinner. Our amazing Chef, Sandy, provides plenty of healthy options for each meal. We also accommodate gluten and dairy free. We are NOT a peanut-free facility because campers may bring them in from home, however we do not serve any peanuts from our kitchen. We eat well at Camp Carl! Just ask our past staff!
Housing
If you are a counselor, you will be housed in a cabin with your co-counselor. Each cabin has it’s own full bathroom. If you are in the yurts, there are bathrooms steps from your yurt.
If you are support staff, you will likely be housed with other staff in one of our retreat centers. You will likely share a room with 3-5 other staff members and have communal bathrooms.
We suggest you bring a small plastic drawer container that you keep your personal belongings in all summer. We encourage you to bring pictures and small décor to make your space your own which must be hung up with temporary means (tape, command hooks, thumbtacks, etc)
We also have a shower house attached to our gym that is available to everyone.
Time Off
You get time off! All of our staff is off on weekends from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon (about 42 hours). Most staffers take this opportunity to head home to do laundry, run errands, go to church, REST or maybe catch a movie. For those out-of-town staff, you can stay on the property for the weekends or more commonly be invited home with one of our local staff members!
Sibling Discount
Not only would we love for your younger siblings to come to Camp Carl, but they get to come for HALF OFF. Let’s repeat that: your sibling can get a 50% discount for a week of camp! Bonus!
Community
Community at Camp Carl is authentic, real, and life-changing. You live and serve arm-and-arm with fellow eternity-focused people who LOVE each other, and the campers, sacrificially. We want to make sure all our staff are involved in intentional community so once we know who our team is going to be, we will separate everyone into small discipleship groups that will meet together once a week. The community that you will gain over the course of your time at Camp Carl will enrich your life, not just for the summer but we find that our staff members carry on friendships made at camp for years to come.
Professional Development
College Credit & Internships
It is possible to work at camp AND receive college credit. If you have an applicable field of study and would like to make your summer position into an internship, contact us once you apply and we can discuss the possibility of an internship.
Skill Development
Camp Carl is a hands-on learning environment that not only provides deep spiritual growth, but invaluable life and job skills to EQUIP you for any future career. In a summer at Camp, our staff gain more than 700 hours of on-the-job training in problem solving, work ethic, interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and team work dynamics. Through focused mentorship from the Camp Director, Unit Leaders, and their peers, staff acquire tangible life experiences in leadership, self-discipline, and team dynamics. By sharpening skills and developing character, we prepare and equip our staff for whatever God has called them to next!
