Unit leaders are staff with past camp experience, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and spiritual maturity. They will be responsible for mentoring and developing 10-15 staff members while overseeing the operation of their assigned areas. Areas include: cabin circles, work crew, worship team, and aquatics.
From high energy rallies, ceremonies and main events, to intimate moments around the campfire at night, counselors serve as the hands and feet of Jesus to kids who are longing to be valued and loved. Our counselors have the incredible role of ministering to kids all summer long and providing them a life-changing camp experience as they climb the tower, eat meals in the lodge, talk around the campfire and so much more.
Day Camp Counselor
As a counselor for our summer day camp, you’ll get to supervise and care for kids in grades 1st – 5th grade, providing them what might be their first camp experience. From joyful laughter to tears that miss home, you’ll be there to share it with them and point them to a God who loves them more than they can comprehend.
It takes a special kind of counselor to handle all the traditional roles of a counselor while sleeping in a tent in the backcountry or while bounding over cold rapids in a small raft. It’s a MUST for these counselors to love the outdoors and have significant experience in the wilderness and high adventure settings.

Things like daily camper mail, registration, supply levels, phone calls, and our camp store needs excellent staff to make sure camp runs smoothly each week.
They help us share the fun, excitement and life changing moments that happen at camp every summer. We’re looking for people who have skills and experience in shooting, editing and telling a story through photography and video. Over the summer you’ll gain great experience and walk away with a portfolio to take with you to future positions.
The team members will create skits, dance, sing and get downright silly as they lead and teach kids what it means to worship Jesus.
Our lifeguards keep the water safe, perform swim checks and assist our counselors in showing kids love and providing them a fun experience.
As a challenge staff member you’ll get to encourage kids to push their limits as they climb the tower, step onto the paintball course and learn teamwork in the initiatives course. During the day this team is assigned to leading challenge activities then participates with a cabin in camp-wide activities every evening.
Our hospitality crew helps to create an environment of community through preparing and serving meals, operating the camp store, and our staff coffee shop
Our wranglers get to create an atmosphere of love and learning in the horse barn as they teach kids how to ride and appreciate horses. Wranglers will spend much of their day in the barn caring for the horses and facilities, but will also participate in our camp-wide activities in the evenings.
They will ensure proper areas are closed and locked and assist in resolving any unexpected issues or emergencies overnight.
Health Care Staff
Health care staff provide first aid, ensure camper medication is administered and keep health records during the summer. You will be working closely with nurses and doctors from Akron Children’s Hospital. Experience Needed.
You’ll get to keep camp beautiful and functioning smoothly by clearing trails, mowing the grass, painting fences and replacing light bulbs. It’s not glamorous, but it’s kingdom work and you’ll experience God’s transforming power in your heart through hard work and an incredible Camp Carl community.
Whether it’s pulling kids behind the boat on a tube or enjoying the cool water in a swimming hole, boat drivers can make one of camp’s most exciting activities a lasting memory for kids. Some experience and a clean driving record required. 21 minimum age.
